If you’re into mentalism, then you might be into psychology as well. This is because the two are somewhat similar.
Yes, it is!
In fact, mentalism stems from psychology.
So today, instead of looking at mentalism tricks, we’re going to take a closer look at the law of mentalism. This is 1 of the 7 Universal Laws.
Though these do not align with any one religion, they are just as powerful. The seven principles are a way to understand the universe, and you can study them alongside mentalism.
So let’s take a closer look at the law of mentalism!
What are the 7 Universal Laws?
The 7 Universal Laws are as follows:
- The Law of Mentalism. “The All is Mind; The Universe is Mental.”
- The Law of Correspondence. “As above, so below; as below, so above.”
- The Law of Vibration. “Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates.”
- The Law of Polarity. “Everything is dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled.”
- The Law of Rhythm. “Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates.”
- The Law of Cause and Effect. “Every cause has its effect; every effect has its cause; everything happens according to law; chance is but a name for law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the law.”
- The Law of Gender. Gender is in everything; everything has its masculine and feminine principles; gender manifests on all planes.”
Immutable and Mutable Laws
You can classify the Seven Universal Laws into two types: immutable and mutable.
Immutable laws are absolute. You can never transcend them. They are eternal — they have always existed and will always do so.
The first three — the Laws of Mentalism, Correspondence, and Vibration — are considered Immutable. We cannot change these, but we can work with them.
Mutable laws, in comparison, can be transcended. You can use them to create better realities for yourself. The last four — Polarity, Rhythm, Cause and Effect, and Gender — fall into this category.
It’s not to say, however, that mutable laws are not as vital as immutable ones. All of them still govern our existence.
We should aim to gain a better understanding so we can work in harmony with each one. It allows us to create the life we desire.
The All is Mind; The Universe is Mental
Our minds are the mightiest force in the Universe. It is the central concept of the first of the seven Universal Laws.
It sees the universe as a mental construct, meaning it is a projection of what we have created with our thoughts. Each individual’s mind is part of the Universal Mind, making all of us connected. Each person’s thoughts, as well as their actions, create distinctive realities.
The Law of Mentalism says that:
- The known universe sprung from thought, and nothing can exist without it
- The physical plane — those that are seen or experienced — is rooted in the mental one.
- Everything you experience is a result of your ideas
In a more practical sense, the Law of Mentalism says if we put our minds to something and work for it, we can accomplish almost anything.
The process requires a strong mindset — a clear goal of the reality you want to achieve. If you only have a vague idea of what you want, it may lead to mistakes, making the journey more challenging. It also makes achieving your goal more difficult.
The Law of Mentalism in Daily Life
All these may sound esoteric, but you may have been practicing the Law of Mentalism without knowing it. A classic example is when you keep positive thoughts.
Positive thinking is one way to manifest the Law of Mentalism. Having positive thoughts brings good things to your life. If you fill your head with negative beliefs, these will also come to fruition.
The same can be said for attitude and development, as demonstrated in the Cherokee parable of the two wolves.
The story goes that in every person, there are two wolves — one good, one evil. Every single day, the two wolves battle. When asked which of the two wolves win, the open-ended response is “the one you feed.”
This tale may be from a different culture and uses unique imagery, but the main point is still the same. Our reality is a product of our thoughts. If we choose to believe that we can evolve into something more, it becomes a possibility, regardless of our present circumstances.
The operative word is: choose.
Making a Choice: How to Align with the Law of Mentalism
Our mental state determines our mental health (and eventually, our physical well-being). If we feel depressed or anxious, it is because of how we perceive our surrounding environment. Focusing on the things we love and those that bring us joy, life would be more fulfilling.
The Law of Mentalism refers to the way your mental processes affect your experiences in daily life. Here are several ways you can apply it.
Have a clear vision of what you want. It’s challenging to manifest something if you are not sure of it. You can begin to focus your attention and thoughts on your goal if you can envision it clearly. Ensure the intent is yours and yours alone — sometimes we get swayed by what others want for us or what society deems appropriate.
Anchoring our direction on the desires of others, no matter how well-intended, often ends in frustration and disappointment. Even if you do achieve it, you still have a sense of dissatisfaction because it was not yours, to begin with.
Be mindful of your thoughts. You’d be surprised how much of our thoughts lean towards the negative. We often carry self-limiting beliefs based on fear, worry, or anxiety.
Being conscious of your thoughts allows you to catch yourself in the moment. It stops you from getting carried away by pessimistic concepts.
Learn how to shift your thought patterns. Having an awareness of the quality of your thoughts is one thing. Doing something about it is something else. Reframing is a crucial skill — consciously redirecting your thoughts from focusing on roadblocks and seeing the opportunities.
It’s the same concept as the ability to see the silver lining despite difficult circumstances. After all, you can’t change what happens to you, but you can choose how you respond to it.
Don’t let society pressure you. These days, so many things influence our thoughts — from what is considered beautiful to presumed necessary. Don’t just buy into these social constructs — ask yourself whether you genuinely believe it or not.
This way of thinking allows you to remain authentic to yourself. It also prevents you from believing things just because everyone says so.
The Final Word
The mind is a powerful force. Learning how to harness it is one way to create the reality that brings you fulfillment.
The Law of Mentalism is only one of seven Universal Laws, but it is first for a reason. It connects to and influences all other laws.
Despite being an age-old concept, having a profound understanding allows you to find numerous ways to apply it to modern life, yes, even in mentalism tricks.
So keep these in mind as you seek to create the life that you desire!
